TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice – Top 10 Best B&Bs In The World
An Irish family run bed and breakfast has been named as one of the best holiday guesthouses in the world after receiving top ratings from TripAdvisor travellers. Down Yonder Bed and Breakfast in Sligo fought off competition from around the globe to make it into the top 10 in the 2015 Travellers’ Choice awards.

“With its breathtaking views, incredible hospitality and exquisite interiors coming for high praise indeed. One user described it as “a piece of heaven on earth”, and few seemed to disagree as out of the 122 reviews that they have, not one has rated it below five star.”

Eavan O’Hara’s Philosophy
After the good news was broken to thrilled owner Eavan O’Hara by EVOKE.ie, she said the secret to their success was that they had ‘a lovely business’.

“We enjoy getting to know our guests,” said Eavan. “It’s a home from home for people rather than a disjointed feel, like a hotel. Everybody settles in and feels very comfortable.” She said that: “It is hard to talk about my own business, but I am so delighted with the comments of our guests, that I have included some of them here”.

A special place to stay
Every trip we do we always find one or two of those special places to stay and this is one of them. We were greeted on arrival and made to feel at home straight away. After receiving a tour around we were shown to our room and it was beautiful with an amazing countryside and coastal views. The location is in a quite area and is a nice walk into town but it’s is an uphill walk on the return. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. We loved our stay here and wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Would I go back?
What a wonderful place to stay! I would definitely recommend this property. The 'bed and breakfast' label doesn't do its justice. A lovely location and we had spectacular views from our room. The hosts and very welcoming and friendly - helping us sort out a dinner reservation for that evening.
Down Yonder is in a good location - a walk down the hill to the restaurants and places to have a drink and a not too strenuous stroll back!
Our room was lovely - far, far better than the most expensive hotel we stayed in whilst in Ireland! Modern, fresh, clean and the comfiest bed ever.
Breakfast the next morning was our favourite out of all the hotels we stayed in during our holiday in Ireland. The bowl of prepared fruit was delicious!
The only thing I would have liked was tea and coffee making facilities in the room although we were served a drink on our arrival.
Down Yonder is a beautiful place to stay and I would highly recommend it if you are visiting Rosses Point.

Perfect Getaway!
We absolutely loved this place! It’s a beautiful property, rooms are very comfortable (especially the ones on the upper level) and the amenities are kept simple
Evane and her husband are very warm and hospitable. They’re great to have a chat with for food and sight seeing recommendations.
Breakfast is a treat with a variety of different items available. They’re also very accommodating with food requests. Not to miss.

Beautiful and Relaxing
The hosts of Down Yonder, Eavan and Guido, provided an exceptional stay for our family. They helped us plan out our touring in the area and tips for driving as we headed towards our next location. Dinner suggestions and reservations were also taken care of by our hosts. Harry’s and Driftwood provided excellent meals and ambience. This was a perfect location just a slight drive from downtown Sligo. Views were magnificent and the breakfasts as well. I could not even try think to think of a suggestion. We cannot wait to return.

A haven of calm in a stunning location
Ok so you might say a B&B is just that a place to sleep and get a breakfast and yes that is what Down Yonder offers. like so many b&b around Ireland the lady of the house, Eavan is extremely friendly and hospitable offering us tea when we arrived. Like so many b&bs the room was spotless but its the charm of the place that gives you such a huge bonus. The property is only 16 years old but it oozes character as if it was 150 years old. this comes from the fact that the house was built essentially around doors and door frames from a 150 year old house that we due to be demolished in Omagh and Eavan has effectively built the property and filled the selected the contents to continue the theme. And boy do is work. Fine bone china for your tea. Antique baby grand in the corner inviting a tinkle.
Because it is outside the village, and yet only 5 minutes walk away, the peace is deafening!! The views in particular to the back of the house out to the coast with rolling fields in the foreground are fabulous.
And then the breakfast with home made breads and both a healthy continental or any range of cooked foods (definitely go for the poached eggs with spinach, tomatoes and mushrooms on brown bread) you will be set up for the day.

Plenty to do in the area with golf and loads of sites to visit and walks to take.

So in summary I would highly recommend staying in Down Yonder when you are either passing through Sligo or better still staying for a longer period
